Chapter 6.05 Snowmobiles
6.0501 Definitions
(a) Operator: A person who operates or is in actual control of a snowmobile.
(b) Owner: Any person, other than a lienholder, having a property right in or title to a snowmobile and entitled to the use
or possession thereof.
(c) Snowmobile: Any engine-driven vehicle of a type which utilizes sled-type runners, wheels, or skis, with an endless
belt tread or similar means of contact with the surface upon which it is operated.
6.0502 Operation on Public Ways Generally
(a) No person shall operate a snowmobile on the portion of any right-of-way on any City street for motor vehicle travel,
except the most right-hand lane which is used for vehicular traffic in the same direction other than on expressways or
state highways. While operating on the most right-hand lane, at no time shall snowmobiles be operated two (2) or
more abreast. Snowmobiles may operate in the road ditch where expressways or state highways are so configured
within corporate limits.
(b) No person shall operate a snowmobile on any public sidewalk provided for pedestrian travel.
(c) Travel is permitted on alleys when traveling from place of storage to the nearest street.
6.0503 Operation on Private Property
No person shall operate a snowmobile on private property of another without the express permission to do so by the owner of said property.
6.0504 Operation in Recreational Areas
No person shall operate a snowmobile on public school grounds, park property, playgrounds, slide areas, recreational areas and skating rinks without the express permission to do so by the proper authority.
6.0505 Yielding Right-of-Way
At any street intersection not controlled by traffic sign, a snowmobile shall yield right-of-way to all other motor vehicles.
6.0506 Hours of Operation
It is unlawful for any person to operate a snowmobile between the hours of 10:00 P.M. and 6:00 A.M. of the following day, except that a driver may drive during this restricted time when he is coming into town to his residence or place of storage.
6.0599 Penalties
Any person violating any provision of Chapter 6.05, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof, shall be fined in accordance with the following schedule:
First Offense: $100
Second Offense: $150
Third Offense: $250
Fourth and subsequent offenses: $500
