The Library Board meeting was called to order by President JoAnn Gemar at 7:01pm on Monday, August 28, 2023. The following board members were present Rachel Starwalt, Kim Abbink and Kristyn Walloch. Those board members absent were Damon Mogck and Dennis Bietz. Others present were Billie Jo Hays, Julia Dangel and Tanya Bult.
The July minutes were approved as read.
Statistics - Second quarter monthly statistics along with the summer reading program numbers were reviewed.
Treasurer Report - Balance of $6,646.40 as of July 2023.
Library Board - Any public library established under subdivision § 14-2-29(1) shall be governed by a board of public library trustees. The governing body shall appoint five competent citizens broadly representative of the population of the local governmental unit. In addition to the five appointees, the governing body may appoint one of its own members to serve as a full voting member of the public library board of trustees during that member's term of office. Brenda Hemmelman from the state library broke it down into simpler terms: you need to have two community members, two school district members, a city council member and a school board member.
City Library Director Updates - At the July meeting reports from Libby regarding numbers and usage was requested. As of July 31, 2023 there are 1,026 valid users on Libby from the library with 72 users utilizing the app since January 1, 2023. It was suggested to hold a Libby user class sometime in November.
School Librarian Updates - No report available at this time as Sandy Freier was out sick.
Hours Sign - The cost to remove the old school hours and update the new school hours totaled $185. The library board recommended submitting the bill to the school.
Furniture - A sitting area was discussed by the entrance for adult patrons. After checking with Menno, their furniture is purchased at East River Furniture in Freeman. A quote of $1,525 was received from East River Furniture for a wing back chair.
Public Concerns - Gemar reminded all in attendance to be advocates for the library.
Next meeting date is set for Monday, November 27, 2023 at 7pm.
With no further business to discuss a motion was made by Starwalt, second by Walloch to adjourn the meeting at 7:35pm. All voted in favor. Motion carried.
